This
organism can invade early fetus or developed fetus. Infection can
occur in pre breeding season.
Signs and Symptoms:

Ingestion of this organism by contaminated food may lead to
early embryonic mortality (48 day to 3 month) and abortion.

Abortion occurs from 4-7 months.

There is high rise in temperature, loss of appetite, respiratory
disturbance, placentitis and it will lead to abortion.

If fetus does not come out, it will lead to mummification.

It can produce congenital abnormalities/structural defects.

It happens during organogenesis at early stages during first 40
days.
Diagnosis:
Isolation from aborted fetus particularly lymphoid, spleen,
placenta. Immunocytochemical identifications of bovine viral
protein.
Control:
Extensive culling is recommended. Vaccination is also recommended.
It is specific for bovines.
Treatment:
Separate from other animals. Broad spectrum antibiotic, supportive
therapy, progesterone.
