Uterine Prolapse

It is complete inversion of uterus. It is post partum prolapse.

Causes

  • Main indication is hypocalcaemia

  • Prolong dystocia

  • Fetal traction

  • Retained fetal membrane

  • Chronic diseases

  • Sometime aversion after parturition

  • Mostly it occurs in pleuriparous animals during May-October. Its chances are also more in stud animals as compared to grazing animals.

Clinical Signs:

  • Recumbent animal

  • Uterine tissues, edematous, enlarged and contaminated with fetus

  • Placenta may remain attached to endometrium

  • Weakness or depression

  • Subnormal temperature

  • Anxiety

  • Struggling and comma

  • These all signs are produced due to hypocalcemia

Treatment:

  • Apply wet towel to prevent from drying

  • Wash prolapse part with normal saline

  • Apply non irritant antiseptics as bernol

  • Place prolapced part back

  • 1-2 ml oxytocin then repeat after 6-8 hours

  • Ca therapy

  • Parental and also intrauterine administration of antibiotics

  • Fluid therapy
